Funding opportunity: Call for Proposals now available
HealthCare Chaplaincy has now released a Call for Proposals (CFP) for a pioneering grant making initiative aimed at growing the field of chaplaincy research in palliative care.

HealthCare Chaplaincy welcomes applications from interdisciplinary research teams comprised of health, behavioral or social scientists, and board-certified chaplains who are affiliated with educational or health care institutions, research organizations, or other types of nonprofit organizations located in the United States or Canada. Consortia of such institutions or organizations are also welcome to apply.

The Call for Proposals and comprehensive information can be found at http://www.healthcarechaplaincy.org/templeton-research-project.html. The deadline for submitting applications is March 15,2012 at 3 pm ET.

  • There will be an Informational Webinar/Conference Call for Applicants on January 12, 2012 (2 pm ET). You must register in advance to participate. The link to register will be available at http://www.healthcarechaplaincy.org/templeton-research-project.html shortly. Please check back. This webinar will be recorded and available online if you cannot attend. HealthCare Chaplaincy will select and fund 6 to 10 interrelated and interdisciplinary research projects at a total of $1.5 million that will:
  • Develop and explore hypotheses about chaplains'contributions to palliative care
  • Team experienced health, behavioral and social scientists with chaplains to develop their research skills by becoming active participants in the research enterprise;
  • Involve aspiring chaplain-researchers whose projects are not selected for funding through the competitive RFP process, but who, nonetheless, show considerable promise as researchers.

These grants are made possible through the vision and generosity of the John Templeton Foundation (JTF), a philanthropic catalyst for discoveries relating to the big questions of human purpose and ultimate reality. JTF is partnering with HealthCare Chaplaincy — a national leader in the research, education and practice of spiritual care and palliative care — to advance scientific research on professional chaplaincy's contributions to health and health care, particularly palliative care, which relieves suffering and improves one's quality of life.
